Gallery: Inspiring future athletes

Athletes at Tokyo Olympics have inspired the next generation of stars.

Over 400 athletes competed recently at the Diocesan Primary Athletics Carnival at Hunter Sports Centre, Glendale.

It was only the second Diocesan carnival where the 1500m was run so records were chased.

In the boys 8-10 years Sebastian Chalhoub from St James, Kotara South broke the record with a time of 5:19:91. In the 11 years boys the first three places all broke the current record with Oliver Gorton from St Aloysius, Chisolm finishing first with a time of 5:18:18.

In the senior boys, two broke the current record with Zachary Thomson from St Aloysius now holding the new record time of 4:46:93.

The day saw fantastic results produced; all competitors should be congratulated on their efforts.

A strong team will represent the Diocese at Polding, which will hopefully be hosted by the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle at Glendale.
