St Michael's presents a Disney Dance Spectacular

The entire school community from St Michael's Primary School, Nelson Bay, entertained family and friends over two nights recently with their Disney Dance Spectacular.

Under the direction of specialist dance teacher, Miss Prue, all students from Kindergarten to Year 6 focussed on the performing, composing and appreciating aspects of dance in more than 15 dances on stage.

Following curriculum guidelines in the Key Learning Areas of PDHPE and Creative Arts (Drama), the students learnt that through dance they can communicate moods, feelings and ideas; that through expressive, formal and sensory qualities a story begins to unfold.

The Spectacular saw the appearance of characters from Disney's Mickey Mouse, Pinnochio, Woody, Dory, Nemo and Olaf. The senior students took the audience on a journey across the sea dressed as pirates before finishing the concert dancing to 'Step in Time' with Mary Poppins.

Students also showcased their creative talents through their colourful costumes - from cardboard boxes turned into cars to cowboy hats and creatures under the sea - the students knew how to put on a show!

The school hall was packed out for both nights' performances as all the students and audience members bopped along to the dances and admired the wonderful costumes, music and lights.
