Secondary Diocesan Athletics Carnival 2018

There was an array of talent on display recently at the Secondary Diocesan Athletics Carnival held at Hunter Sports Centre in Glendale.

Seven diocesan records were broken on the day!

Molly Salvador from St Paul’s Catholic College, Booragul, broke a record that has stood since 1988 in the 12 years 400m with a time of 1:05:45. Molly also broke the record in her 1500m event with a time of 5:12:52.

Dakota Thomas, also from St Paul’s, Booragul, broke the record in the 17+ years shot put with a throw of 11.76m.

Dakota’s brother, Kane Thomas, also broke a record in the junior triple jump with a jump of 10.64m.

Alkira Johnston from St Pius X High School, Adamstown, broke another junior triple jump record to land 9.67m.

The lightning speed of Torrie Lewis was on display on the day, with Torrie setting a record time of 12.74 in the 13 years 100m.

A relay record was also broken on the day by the St Pius X, Adamstown junior girls with a time of 56:37.

Over 115 of these skilful athletes will now head to the Sydney Athletic Centre in Homebush to represent the Diocese at the NSW Combined Catholic Colleges Athletics Championships next month, with some athletes competing in three or more events.

We wait in anticipation to watch these gifted, young athletes perform at the next level.
