National Volunteer Week 2022: Better Together

National Volunteer Week is Australia’s largest annual celebration of volunteers. Volunteering brings people together; it builds communities and creates a better society for everyone.

The theme for Volunteer Week 2022 (16-22 May) is Better Together. The Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle and its agencies have more than 6000 volunteers who contribute their time every day.

Our Diocese deeply values the significant contribution volunteers make to our various committees, schools, parishes, and social services. Our volunteers enrich the quality of life for the people we support through their good deeds. Without them, some of our important programs and services would not be able to operate across the community.

From visiting fellow parishioners in their time of need, to providing informed advice on topics that matter, our volunteers’ efforts are always appreciated. From reading books to students, to teaching English to new migrants; their time is of such value. From cooking meals for the vulnerable, to providing a shoulder to cry on; their care inspires hope.

In the lead up to 16-22 May this year, we will be hosting two free events in our Diocese as a chance for all of us to come together, celebrate and recognise the vital work of volunteers and to say thank you.
