On Tuesday evening St Nicholas Newcastle West and Singleton educators came together for training on Aboriginal perspectives in early childhood by Cherie from Speaking in Colour. This was an informative professional development session on the holistic immersion of the Aboriginal culture for our services and provided some great resources on creating a culturally diverse program.
Staff explored local Aboriginal culture and learned how they, as educators, can translate Aboriginal culture into their programs.
One of the outcomes of the workshop was to move away from a "tokenistic" application of Aboriginal culture and discover how to really develop a program rich in content for children enrolled at St Nicholas Early Education.
