Dr Richard Gaillardetz, the Joseph Professor of Catholic Systematic Theology, Boston College, author and editor of 13 books on the contemporary church, will visit briefly to draw upon his extensive understanding of the post-Vatican II church in an 8 September seminar titled ‘the reimagining of church – challenges and opportunities’. In this seminar Richard will invite mature consideration of, and engagement with, the church that is and the church that might be.
Paul Desmond, Director of Catholic Education, Diocese of Sandhurst, says of Dr Richard, “I first read some of the writings of Dr Richard (Rick) Gaillardetz some years back. However, it was the opportunity to sit, hear and absorb his words that left a genuinely powerful and lasting impression. Rick is a renowned American Catholic theologian and writer, but it is his overt commitment to the Catholic faith in these challenging times that makes hearing him speak so memorable. Yes, he will challenge and maybe even unsettle, but he leaves his audience with a great sense of hope that the Word of Jesus will steady and guide the Church and contemporary society will be enriched by it.”
It is an exciting coup for our diocese to host Richard following his keynote role at the National Pastoral Leaders & Planners Conference at Melbourne. Through collaboration with Catholic Schools Office we are, again, enjoying premium speakers. Learn more about the event or refer below for seminar details.
