School closures on Wednesday 24 March due to severe weather

A message from Gerard Mowbray, Director of Catholic Schools, Catholic Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle.

The Catholic Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle wishes to advise that four Catholic schools in the diocese will re-open tomorrow Wednesday 24 March, but for supervision purposes only.

These schools include:

  • St Joseph’s Primary School, Dungog
  • St Joseph's Primary School, Gloucester
  • St Joseph's Primary School, Taree
  • St Clare's High School, Taree

Where possible, parents and carers of children attending these schools are urged to keep their children home. This decision comes on the back of extreme weather conditions in the region and is in accordance with the Diocese's ongoing commitment to ensuring our staff and students' health and safety.

These schools will resume normal operations once it is deemed safe, and the community will be kept abreast of these updates promptly via the schools' communication channels and local media. If you need to contact your child's school regarding any concerns or requests for assistance, please email them directly.

Following closures earlier in the week St Joseph's Primary School, Wingham and St Joseph’s Primary School, Bulahdelah will resume normal operations from Wednesday 24 March.

Our thoughts and prayers are with our local communities who have been deeply affected by the devastation of this intense rainfall.
