2016 NSW PSSA Basketball Championships

The NSW PSSA Basketball Championships were recently held in Tamworth and showcased the skills of many students from the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle.

The Hunter is currently incredibly strong in junior girl’s basketball with three students: Sophie Williams from Holy Spirit Kurri Kurri, Emily Foy from St James Kotara South, and Saffron Shiels from St Paul’s Gateshead, representing our diocese at the NSW PSSA Basketball Championships.

The girls represented Polding who made the semi final, defeating Sydney South West. Polding progressed to the finals where they faced the Hunter team. Polding won 38-33, winning the Championships.

Both Sophie and Emily were outstanding throughout the three-day tournament, gaining selection in the NSW PSSA team, a great achievement.

The boys also did well with Noah Shiels from St Paul’s Gateshead, representing Polding and also gaining selection in the NSW PSSA team.

It is a huge achievement to represent your State at National level and I commend all students who have been involved.
