Are you interested in working to help refugee and asylum seeker families?

An exciting opportunity exists to join the CatholicCare team as a Multicultural Family Support Worker, with a strong focus on assisting individuals and families referred by the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle’s Development and Relief Agency (DARA).

CatholicCare Social Services Hunter-Manning is a not-for-profit organisation and a mission and outreach agency of the Catholic Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle. CatholicCare recognises the importance of mental health and that it underpins all aspects of a person’s life including self-worth, forming and maintaining relationships, and the ability to work and study.

The Multicultural Family Support Worker position is a new position within CatholicCare and the person appointed will provide short term counselling, casework and advocacy support to refugee and asylum seeker families who are referred by DARA.

DARA is a registered charity that supports new migrants, refugees and asylum seekers in the Hunter community. The Agency’s mission is to reach out, support and empower these people on their journey to independence. They achieve this by collaborating with like-minded organisations such as CatholicCare, to meet the immediate needs of new migrants, refugees and asylum seekers, providing practical assistance and supporting them to achieve community integration by facilitating pathways to education, employment and training.

The Multicultural Family Support Worker will be required to work with people from all demographic groups including:

  • Asylum seekers
  • Children from refugee families
  • Young people from refugee families
  • Families from refugee background

To find out more about the position and how you might be able to visit our local community, please visit www.catholiccare.org.au/join-us/ or contact Tanya Russell on 02 4979 1176.
