Counting down to World Youth Day 2016!

The diocese’s 71 World Youth Day pilgrims’ countdown to departure is reaching fever pitch with ‘D Day’ on Thursday 14 July. For 27 days, pilgrims – spanning a broad age range – will walk in the footsteps of the saints and then make their way to Krakow. Here they will join thousands of pilgrims from all over the world in welcoming Pope Francis and eagerly listening to his words.

Pilgrimage co-ordinators, Brian and Sue Lacey, will lead pilgrims to Venice, Padua, Milan, Siena, Assisi, Cascia, Rome and Naples, then to Krakow!

As advised previously, there are many ways to keep in touch with our diocesan pilgrims.  A live feed has been set up on the diocesan news site mnnews.today for all your WYD updates. We also ask that you ‘like’ mnnewstoday on Facebook and follow @mnnewstoday on Twitter and/or Instagram. You can sign up to receive the weekly diocesan e-newsletter Diocesan Update, which will include stories from WYD.

Xt3 will be broadcasting live from Krakow throughout the World Youth Day week, including the Pope’s arrival in Poland, the welcoming ceremony, the Way of the Cross, the prayer vigil with youth, the final Mass and the announcement of the next World Youth Day.

During their travels, our pilgrims will be referring often to the reflection booklet designed by Family Community Faith Co-ordinator, Melissa Fenech. The booklet will encourage and direct prayer and reflection with a ‘150 years of the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle’ flavour.

Please keep our WYD pilgrims  and all pilgrims – in your prayers and watch a video below of Maitland-Newcastle pilgrim, Jessica Laczkowski.
