Cardinal John Dew from New Zealand and several keynote speakers presented papers on the internal and external challenges facing Catholic schools and Catholic education. What was heartening to all delegates was the united voice that catholic schools are the future of our church.
The leaders, including all Maitland Newcastle principals, considered the challenges, reimagined catholic education, encountered new horizons through networking with other leaders, and stood together against the threats that attempt to undermine authentic catholic education and what it stands for in Australian society.
Several of our Principals commented that they stand steadfast against the secular trends, and want to offer an alternative worldview for young people- one based on Jesus and Justice. I was a co-learner at the conference and stand with our Principals in their role as religious and educational leaders in our schools.
