Inaugural Magdalene Award recipient announced

Margo Nancarrow of Rutherford is the inaugural recipient of the Magdalene Award.

The award was instituted by the diocesan contact group of the Council for Australian Catholic Women (CACW) to recognise a woman who is an active member of her parish community and has made a positive contribution within the diocese to one or more of the areas of decision-making, leadership, active service and lay pastoral ministry.

Bishop Bill announced the recipient at the annual International Women’s Day diocesan event on Sunday. Margo was one of 25 nominees.

Afterwards, Margo said, “I thank the selection group for choosing me from a number of very worthy nominees. This is indeed an honour and I was surprised but at the same time deeply humbled and appreciative that a lifelong commitment to working for my Church and for the advancement of women was recognised. The theme of this year, ‘Be Bold for Change’, should resonate for us all. The symbolic nature of the actual award is outstanding and I will treasure it until next year. Thank you to the Council for Australian Catholic Women in this diocese for its continued support and acknowledgement of women.”

Margo’s contributions have ranged across Special Religious Education, liturgy, Catholic Women’s League and CACW, Australian Catholic Bishops Life Council, Parents and Friends, Diocesan Pastoral Council and more!
