SupportHer Co. Emerging Athlete Workshop

Twenty talented female athletes from secondary schools across the Diocese attended the SupportHer Co. Emerging Athlete Workshop this week at Newcastle Tafe.

SupportHer Co. is a program created to support and empower female athletes across Newcastle and the Hunter region.

The presenters included Mel Harris, Mindset Training High Performance Psychologist; Alicia Edge, Nutritionist and CEO of Compeat Performance; and Mel Jenkins, Georgia Bear and Lexi Wadworth of Solvd Agency.

The girls were engaged with sessions on resilience, mindset, nutrition, social branding and awareness, strength and conditioning, and careers in sport.

The day finished with inspiring words from Jemma Pollard, World Athletes U20 Champion; Leah Ollerton, NRLW Newcastle Knights player; Josie Allan, A League Womens Newcastle Jets player and Logan Dalton, World Surf League surfer.

Leader of Sport for the Diocese, Bernadette Duggan said the students really enjoyed the experience.

“The workshop was highly engaging, beneficial and practical in its approach,” she said.

“Exciting opportunities such as these are important for our female athletes and their development. We hope to continue and develop our connection with SupportHer Co.”
