Congratulations to Conor McCamley from All Saints’ College, St Mary's Campus, Maitland who received an Encore nomination for her HSC Music performance program. The Encore concert showcases the best HSC performances and compositions from across NSW. If selected, Conor will sing one of her HSC pieces at the City Recital Hall in Sydney early next year. Conor was exceptional in performing four songs as part of her performance program for the HSC, including One Foot in the Grave by Andie Isalie, Don't Know Why by Jesse Harris, She Used to be Mine by Sara Bareilles and Gravity also by Sara Bareilles.
Conor has impressed many audiences throughout her school years and this nomination is an excellent recognition of the hard work, dedication and talent she has displayed. She has been involved in many music activities including college liturgies, masses, open nights, presentations and other formal events, St Mary's Shines and of course Dio Sounds where she has been featured as a soloist. Conor has also had success in composing, wining the ASPIRE song competition in 2019 and academically in her other senior studies. She is to be commended for her commitment to Music and involvement in school extra-curricular activities throughout her time at All Saints’ College. Everyone wishes her the very best in all her future endeavours.
St Catherine’s Catholic College, Singleton
Congratulations to Noah Adamthwaite who received an Encore nomination for his HSC Music performance program. If selected, Noah will sing one of his HSC pieces at the City Recital Hall in Sydney early next year. Noah sang four demanding songs as part of his performance program for his HSC, including musical numbers Evermore from Beauty and the Beast and Confrontation from Jekyll and Hyde, a mash-up of Straighten Up and Fly Right/Nobody Knows the Trouble I’ve Seen, and finishing with Puccini’s famous aria Nessun Dorma. Noah’s voice has impressed all those who have listened to him sing. He has been performing all his life and this nomination is excellent recognition of the hard work and dedication he has displayed over the years.
Noah has been an integral part of the St Catherine’s Creative Arts Faculty for many years. He has been involved in the college choir, performing at college liturgies and masses, eisteddfods, the annual Night on the Green and the Choir Showcase days at Lochinvar. He has been a lead character in college musicals, including Happy Days and The Mystery of Ingle Springs. He has also represented St Catherine’s at Dio Sounds over many years, as well as being selected for ASPIRE as part of the vocal ensemble. Noah is to be commended for his commitment to the Creative Arts Faculty throughout his time at St Catherine’s and we wish him all the best in his future endeavours.
Congratulations to Year 12 Drama for the nomination of the whole class for OnStage, a selection of outstanding performances and projects from HSC students. If selected for the program, the students will perform at the Seymour Centre, Sydney in February 2020. All 12 of our students were nominated this year for their exceptional pieces. The Group Performance, titled Tyred of Making Sandwiches, centred upon four women setting out to prove they could win the Bathurst 1000. This piece was a comic yet powerful examination of the equality issues facing woman in the workforce and was devised by Mya Grech, Jessica Rowell, Taylah Sullivan and Domonique Wyse.
The second group, consisting of Chris Taylor, Bridie O’Dwyer, Kye Lewis and Maddy Owen, were nominated for their piece Home is Where the Heart Is. This performance focused on a family facing the difficulties of breaking into the Australian housing market. The final group, Elizabeth Avery, Jenevieve Bawden, Kiara Haeata and Holly Twemlow performed their piece Dust. It was a moving examination of the value of the performing arts to our lives and how we are hollow without them.
Additionally, Jenevieve Bawden and Chris Taylor both received individual nominations for their monologues The Chairs and The Explorer’s Club. To be nominated for both performances is a wonderful achievement and a credit to their talent and diligence.
I would like to thank the class for their constant dedication during the rehearsal process and their willingness to trust in my guidance. I have never seen a reaction of such jubilance and excitement when they were informed of the good news. It is moments like this that make teaching so rewarding and it has been a privilege to work with such a gracious and well-deserving group of young people.
St Joseph’s High School, Aberdeen
Congratulations to Georgia Evans who received a Writers ONSTAGE nomination for her HSC Drama script. Georgia’s script along with others who were selected will now go before a panel where it will be discussed. If selected, Georgia’s script will be presented at the Seymour Centre in early February. Georgia chose to write an original script for the Individual Project option. Her script titled ‘Without a Plan’ was inspired by true life events. Georgia, while she enjoys performing has always loved to write. She has always been told to ‘write what you know'. She started the process with a list of memories and the script evolved from there.
Georgia has been an integral part of St Joseph’s Creative Arts Faculty for many years. She came from St Catherine’s College in Year 10 and quickly settled into our Drama class. Georgia has been involved in various showcases, school productions and diocesan events since arriving at the school. Our ‘Drama family’ were thrilled when we were notified about her nomination.
Georgia is to be commended for her hard work, energy and passion she brought to drama and we wish her all the best for her future endeavours.
