Performed at St Paul’s High School, Booragul, many parents, family members and friends attended the eagerly anticipated event. For 10 years now, the musical has become an integral part of our school calendar.
With the expert guidance from Artistic Director of ASPIRE, Anna Kerrigan, students have shown great enthusiasm for the production.
Once staff decide on a theme and students brainstorm ideas, the concept is magically and very cleverly woven into a unique script. All ideas are included so there is a real sense of ownership by all students.
Over 120 students from Kindergarten to Year 6 performed in the production and with enrolment numbers continuing to grow, it is expected next year's cast will reach well over 140.
Performances are a combination of song, dance and drama with the script being a wonderful mix of sharp humour and poignant messages.
This year’s theme was ‘dreams’ with the concert spectacular named, In Your Wildest Dreams. The concert included monsters, animals, paparazzi, racing cars, sharks and even Donald Trump. From a teacher's perspective what made us so proud was the opportunity given to students to shine.
The concert spectacular is very carefully programmed over two terms, integrating Dance and Drama as per the Creative and Practical Arts Syllabus. Students critically analyse components of their own performance and that of others.
In the weeks and days leading up to the concert there was a real buzz around the school. Parents commented on the energy that was obvious at Holy Cross.
As a school we are very appreciative of the assistance offered by St Paul's High School which supplies not only the facility but expert staff and students to manage sound, lighting and staging, making the performance on the night a true spectacular.
