Caroline Chisholm cottage first registered on my Richter scale in 2011 when researching historical places to include on a diocesan pilgrimage route, evolving later into The Murray Pilgrimage. A rather sizeable tremor occurred when I noticed this cottage up for auction in late 2017.
Envisioned by the small but enthusiastic ‘Team Murray’ as part of the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle’s 150-year celebrations, a pilgrimage has been planned for Saturday 29 October 2016, exactly one week prior to the dedication of the historic, now restored, St John the Baptist Church.
It all began with John Edmonds’ donation to St John’s Building Fund in 1843, and it ends (hopefully not literally!), with his great, great granddaughter, currently a volunteer member of the working group planning celebrations around the 150th anniversary of Bishop Murray claiming St John’s Church as his cathedral, and the restoration of St John’s.
