Diocesan Cross Country 2023

Primary and Secondary jogger-nauts go the mile at 2023 Cross Country Championships

In week three of Term two over 700 students raced at The Primary Diocesan Cross Country held at Maitland Park. It was an excellent carnival atmosphere with schools cheering each other on and Paul Humphreys from H-Events providing live commentary.

The Secondary Cross Country hosted by St Joseph’s, Aberdeen was held at the scenic Lake Glenbawn. The venue looked sensational with the dam being the fullest it has ever been. The runners pushed themselves, pining for a place in the top six and the opportunity to compete at the NSWCCC.

It was big year at Polding and New South Wales Combined Catholic Colleges (NSWCCC) Cross Country Championships as the venue changed for the first time in many years. The track at Sydney Equestrian Centre was certainly a more testing course with similar challenges to Lake Glenbawn.

Despite the challenging course the following runners earnt themselves a place on the podium:

Phoenix Russell from St Patrick’s, Lochinvar placed 1st

Wil Macdougall from St James, Kotara placed 2nd

Maeva Clifford from St Paul’s, Gateshead placed 3rd

The students representing Polding at the NSWPSSA Cross Country are:

Mia Porter - St Patrick’s, Swansea

Skye Porter - St Patrick’s, Swansea

Chase Partlic - St Therese’s, New Lambton

Leura Russell - St Joseph’s, Lochinvar

The following Maitland Newcastle runners won their division in the multiclass events:

Sienna Compton - Chisolm

Caleb Hyslop - Chisolm

Sebastian Stace - East Maitland

For each age group there is a winning Diocese, where the results of all runners are combined and the diocese with the lowest times in total wins. Maitland Newcastle placed:

2nd in the 8/9 Yrs Boys

3rd place in the 8/9Yrs Girls

3rd in the 11Yrs Girls

3rd in the 12/13Yrs Girls

3rd in the 12/13Yrs Boys

Congratulations to all runners who competed on the day representing our Diocese with pride.
