Net result is St Catherine’s students shine at tennis

Two teams comprising players from Year 4 at St Catherine’s Catholic College, Singleton took out first and third place at the regional tennis finals in Newcastle recently.

The Todd Woodbridge Cup tournament-winning team will head to Sydney on 18 November for the state finals.

After the initial five rounds of the regional finals, St Catherine’s was in the enviable position of having both teams in the semi-finals and playing off for the top two spots that would earn the right to compete against the other best teams from regions across NSW and the ACT.

One St Catherine’s team ended up winners on the day, and the other took out third place, which was an amazing result given only 15 players travelled to Newcastle for the event and the “second” team were one player down all day but continued regardless.

The first placing improved on last year’s second and makes it two years in a row St Catherine’s Stage 2 students have finished in the top two.

The students had earnt their place at the regionals after finishing first and second at the zone day at beautiful Howe Park Tennis Complex in Singleton playing against other qualifying schools.

They had a wonderful time at zone day, excelling both in their sportsmanship and in their skilled play. It was great to see teamwork from all, and the way our returning players from last year used their knowledge and experience to help new players.

Well done to all!
