Larry Keating awarded Emmaus Award for Leadership

Larry Keating, Principal of St Mary’s Catholic College, Gateshead has continued to grow, adapt and evolve as a leader, receiving the Emmaus Award for Leadership.

This is the second time Larry has been recognised for the award, receiving it for the first time in 2004, and is the first school leader to receive the award twice.

Larry started his first principal role at St Clare’s High School, Taree in 1990 and this year marks his 30th year in the leadership position.

In his last decade at St Mary’s, Larry has recognised some significant needs in the school and created a strategic and focussed professional learning agenda for the staff to create common language, clear direction and a culture of high expectations. Professional and collaborative learning has created a highly coherent culture at St Mary’s.

From 2015 to 2017, Larry led the implementation of St Mary’s transitioning to accommodate senior students for Years 11 and 12. The school will see its first HSC students graduate this year. This journey has been systematic and meticulous and has been achieved with great success, with demand for enrolment places greatly exceeding capacity – the school has gone through a rebirth.

Congratulations Larry Keating.
