The strains of “Glory, glory to God in the highest…”, led by an enthusiastic choir and band under the direction of Anne Millard, captured the elation of the occasion.
Bishop Bill spoke of a college prayer book he remembers from schooldays in which the call to be an alter Christus – another Christ – was highlighted. “…be another Christ in the world….make him in some way present. Each of us shares the mission of Christ.”
Bishop Bill particularly drew to the attention of his priests the words of Luke’s gospel:
“The Spirit of the Lord has been given to me. He has sent me to bring the good news to the poor, to proclaim liberty to captives and to the blind, new sight, to set the downtrodden free, to proclaim the Lord’s year of favour.”
The Oils of Chrism, of Catechumens and of the Sick have been taken back to the parishes to be presented at the Mass of the Lord’s Supper.
