Special guest visit for Our Lady of Victories' Year 6 leaders

Our Lady of Victories Primary School, Shortland welcomed families back with a special guest visit from local State Member for Wallsend, Sonia Hornery MP.

Our Lady of Victories Primary School, Shortland were very excited to welcome back families earlier this month at their Year 6 Leadership Liturgy.

To mark this momentous occasion, local State Member for Wallsend, Sonia Horney MP joined students and families for the event.

“Families are such an important part of our school community and we have missed their presence at celebrations and liturgies over the last two years. The special guest visit from Mrs Hornery made it even more special for our Year 6 students,” Our Lady of Victories Teacher and Gifted Education Mentor, Lisa York said.

“Teachers and students were able to talk with Ms Hornery about our unique leadership program here at Our Lady of Victories.”

Rather than having school captains at Our Lady of Victories, all Year 6 students are considered leaders. As part of the school leadership team, students are tasked with roles such as running assemblies, representing the school, raising the flags in the morning, and assisting with events. Each year, students are presented with a school blazer and badge to wear with pride.

School Principal, Mr Vandermaat lead a whole school blessing, asking the students to be guided by the lessons of Jesus and ensuring our students remain positive role models for the younger members of our school.

Our sincere thanks to Sonia Hornery MP visiting our Year 6 leaders.
