Twins Amity and Ellody, John and Oliver, and Elijah and Charlie were welcomed into big school with a morning of play.
For the first five weeks of Kindergarten, each day begins with an hour of unstructured play.
“We started this new program of playing when they first get here, which is an easier transition for them when they come to school,” said Kindergarten teacher Jenna McInerney.
“They make friends, which ensures they are not alone in the playground. You can really see different personalities shine through and how they play, which we wouldn’t normally get to see if they were playing in the playground.
“To see the kids’ imaginations come to life is just incredible.”
Kindergarten teacher Deborah Edwards said there is a lot of research to back up the importance of play-based learning, and that classes are planned based on what they see in these play times.
All of the students were settling in well and enjoying the new experience, including kindy student Rex who was a big fan of his first week. “It is lots of fun,” he said.
