It’s an opportunity to connect with others and celebrate the global movement.

Pastoral Placement Program participant Xanthe Lamont is very excited for the event.

“Since I wasn’t able to attend WYD 2023 in Portugal, this is a great time to be able to experience at least some of what the pilgrims in Portugal are experiencing,” she says.

“It’s going to be a day where I don’t have to focus on anything I have to do or the busyness of life. It’s going to be a time when I can learn from others and reflect.”

Xanthe says she is looking forward to getting out, meeting others, and stretching her legs.

“But it is more than just a walk,” she adds.

“I’m excited to connect with other young people and to learn more about them.

“I’m also looking forward to the quiet moments of reflection and prayer, just listening to the pounding of my heart and only having to focus on the step in front of me.”

She encourages everyone to come along.

“It’s hard to know what to expect when it comes to events like these, but I would say to keep an open mind to what you might gain from it,” Xanthe explains.

“It’s a chance to make new friends, learn about yourself, others, and your faith. Plus it’s never a bad thing to get walking outside.”

The day will start by meeting at St Joseph’s East Maitland from 7.15am for a 7.30am departure. Transport will be available to leave from the Diocesan offices in Newcastle West, next to Sacred Heart Cathedral.
