St Dominic’s Centre at Mayfield, CatholicCare’s Refugee Hub, the Hamilton South Community Kitchen, The Way of the Cross, and the Sod Turning Ceremony in Chisholm, are just some of the sites Bishop Michael has visited recently.
St Dominic’s Centre Principal Rachel Jones said the staff and students were honoured to have the Bishop stop by.
“Last week St Dominic’s was pleased to host our Pastoral Visit with Bishop Michael Kennedy and Fr John Lovell,” she said.
“The students provided them with a tour, and prayed together where the Bishop blessed them. The students also took their coffee orders, made them chocolate brownies, and presented their PLD program and an information session on stick insects, where the Bishop bravely held one.”
At CatholicCare’s Community Kitchen, Bishop Michael got to meet the staff, volunteers and community members who make the service so special. He got to see first-hand the impact the kitchen has on the people who access it.
Similarly, at the Refugee Hub, Bishop Michael interacted with staff and clients to learn about the work they do supporting individuals and families from refugee, asylum seeker, or vulnerable migrant backgrounds.
In early April, the Bishop also celebrated his first public event with the faithful of Maitland-Newcastle at our Chrism Mass. Hundreds of people gathered in Sacred Heart Cathedral for the annual event.
With many sites still to visit, Bishop Michael Kennedy has a busy few months ahead. Check out the gallery of photos below from his first few weeks at our Diocese.
