You are invited to be a pilgrim on the aMeN caMiNo!

The inspiration of John Wakely, the Camino MN: Cathedral to Cathedral, had its inaugural pilgrim group set off in June of 2018. Leading the group were: John Wakely, his brother Richard, who over many months prior, walked and mapped the intended intervals for the Camino.

Bernadette Gibson who was Education Officer in Formation for Mission in 2018, now head of RE and Spirituality CSO, also co-ordinated a group of interested potential leaders and developed the reflections and guides for the pilgrimage. In 2019 Bernadette and the Camino team lead two groups on the pilgrimage.

Many names were thrown around, with the “aMeN CaMiNo” emerging at The Called to Serve Mass in 2019 from a conversation with one of the Ministry Co-ordinators in the Diocese Fiona Duque. Imagination and the Holy Spirit imbued this with a sense of rightness, and it stuck.

This is ‘a’ ‘M’ (Maitland) ‘N’ (Newcastle) Camino for ‘e’ everyone.! Yes! aMeN!

In 2020 the aMeN caMiNo was further reimagined so it sits in line with its original purpose to be an experience across the Diocese of Maitland Newcastle.

The aMeN caMiNo is now available for anyone involved with the many agencies and parishes of the Diocese of Maitland Newcastle, including Catholic Schools Office, Office of Safeguarding, Catholic Care, Shared services, Pastoral Ministries, St Nicholas, Data Analytics, Finance, PMO, Diocesan Councils, Religious, Parishioners and those of good will.

Using intervals of the Great North Walk, this five-day pilgrimage is a journey through the Watagans, around the lake and the beautiful Hunter beaches. A bush, mountain, beach, city and pub experience.

On the aMeN caMiNo you will encounter relationship, story, the grace of God in the beautiful landscape of our own backyard. The aMeN caMiNo will stretch your body, mind and spirit and provides an opportunity of transformation.

If you are interested in joining the aMeN caMiNo in 2021, please fill an expression of interest form by November 30.
