Shrove Tuesday in Aberdeen

St Mark’s Anglican Church in Aberdeen hosted the annual Shrove Tuesday service at 5pm on Tuesday 13th February.

Carol Bowen February 20, 2018

Over 30 parishioners from St Alban’s Muswellbrook, St Paul’s Spring Creek and St Mark’s Aberdeen, along with the parishioners from St Thomas’ Aberdeen and St James’ Muswellbrook, attended. The combined ecumenical service was led by Rev Scott Dulley and Fr Anthony Nguyen. We then moved down to the church hall at St Mark’s where Rev Scott  invoked the heat rule to shorten the Burning of the Palms Ceremony held outside the parish hall with Larry Keegan putting a match to the palms at the appropriate time in the service. Rev Scott  and Fr Anthony  finished the short service and everyone moved inside to escape the heat. Grace was said by Scott Dulley and everyone was able to enjoy the delicious food prepared by the ladies of the district. Although numbers were down on last year a good time was had by all with $311.10 raised for the missions.
