Brighter Futures craft day

On Thursday 6 October CatholicCare staff in Taree are supporting families with young children to “Brighten their Futures” via a morning of glitter and glue, sparkles and snakes.

The morning is about much more than being crafty. It provides opportunities for sometimes isolated families to mingle and connect. It gives children a chance to hone their motor skills and to discover their creativity. It is also a way for parents and young children to work together as a team on a project which they can then take home.

All the activities can be replicated at home with minimal cost.  One of the aims of the day is to introduce families to new activities to avoid hearing those two dreaded words, “I’m bored”

The days usually begin with some singing (complete with actions) with the children having a chance to pick their favourite songs. Parents and children join in the sing-along. There is also a quieter time at the end of the session with children snuggling in for a story.

All good things come to an end and this one ends with a healthy morning tea.

About Brighter Futures

The Brighter Futures program works alongside families facing challenges. It provides support and specialised services for families expecting a child, or with children under nine years old.

CatholicCare recognises parents can struggle, but all parents have skills and experiences they can draw on to help their children grow. We can assist them to be the parents they would really like to be.

There are three ways a family can become involved in the program.

Participation in the program is voluntary and Community Services will always determine a family's eligibility, regardless of how the family has been referred to the program.

Every family is different and Brighter Futures varies its services to provide for individual needs. Services are delivered for some 12 months and each family receives ongoing support from a case worker. Services include:

Brighter Futures focuses on strengths of families, exploring and building on what is working well. In this way it improves relationships and connections within families and communities.
