Young Christian Students (YCS) is an international movement that empowers secondary students to take action in their own lives, in order to change the world around them in light of their faith and beliefs.
Inspired by a young priest, Joseph Cardjin, the movement aims to support the notion that young people could, and must be the ones who take action in their daily lives to bring about the kingdom of God.
The method, called the Review of Life, focuses on three main sections: See, Judge, Act. This includes reflecting on the encounter of students, judging these encounters in light of faith and developing an action plan.
Adults take the back seat…
One of the key components of the YCS is that it is lead for, by and among Secondary students. As students take this initiative and responsibility, they develop the necessary skills that are needed to lead an organisation. This allows them to be able to play a key and active role within their own community and amongst their peers. Adults do have an active role to play but most of that is behind the scenes. In the meetings, adults assist the student groups by supervising, providing support and asking questions that positively challenge the students.
We are currently looking to promote YCS in our diocese. If you are interested in knowing more we encourage you to attend the training day.
