Fr Richard Leonard’s Mercy in the Movies

Fr Richard Leonard,SJ needs little introduction. His name is a drawcard for those who seek to understand how we live faith in our complex age.

Richard’s engaging personality is complemented by his insightful appreciation of contemporary culture, his theological perception and his Jesuit spirituality. In our Year of Mercy, the Tenison Woods Education Centre and Maitland-Newcastle Diocese, are pleased to host his forthcoming workshop entitled ‘Mercy in the Movies’, which will creatively explore our faith and mission through the lens of film.

Richard did graduate studies at the London Film School, has served on juries at many international film festivals, has lectured on faith and culture throughout the world, is a regular columnist with the London Tablet, is often on ABC radio and currently directs the Australian Catholic Office for Film and Broadcasting. His familiarity with the interconnection of media and culture will thus ensure a highly provocative and grounded presentation.

The most recent of his 9 book titles indicate that he ponders the real dilemmas affecting our Christian mission: Where the Hell is God? Why Bother Praying? What are we Doing on Earth for Christ’s Sake? And What are we Hoping For? So, because of this soul-searching in dialogue with the world around us, Richard will be a skillful guide, enabling us to attend to the signs of God’s mercy right here, right now.

‘Mercy in the Movies’ workshop is Monday 25 July at Souths Leagues Club, Merewether.  Download the event PDF for further information. Payment details provided upon registration.
