Polding Athletics

The Polding Athletics Championships were back at Hunter Sports Centre Glendale after a year at SOPAC in 2023. Over 140 Students from the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle represented and did our Diocese proud. Families travelled from as far as Lismore, Armidale, Bathurst, Wilcannia Forbes and Broken Bay.

Some standout performances included the trifecta in the 8yrs 100m girls' final with Abigail Rice (St Paul's Primary School, Gateshead), Hannah May Forrester (St John the Baptist Primary School, Maitland) and Sophie Emeana (Holy Cross Primary School, Glendale) taking gold, silver & bronze.

Other outstanding performances included Oliver Sciulli (St Joseph's Primary School, Merewether) winning gold in the 11 yrs 100m & 200m, Evie Battle (St Columba's Primary School, Adamstown) won the 12 yrs 100m final as did Mitchell Summers (St Patrick's Primary School, Lochinvar) in both the 100 & 200m while Benjamin Barry (St Aloysius Primary School, Chisholm) won gold in the junior high jump.

Our students in multi class events were also exceptional with Lucas Hyslop (St Aloysius Primary School, Chisholm) winning the junior 800m, 200m and shot put, Caleb Hyslop (St Aloysius Primary School, Chisholm) won the senior 100m, 200m& long jump, Sebastian Stache (St Joseph's Primary School, East Maitland) won the senior shot put and Sienna Compton (St Aloysius Primary School, Chisholm) won the senior 800m, 100m, 200m and long jump.

Overall, Students from the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle performed very well with an exceptional 24 students qualifying for the Polding squad to compete at the NSWPSSA Athletics Championships at Homebush next month. A huge number of students also made it to the finals in most events. All students represented our Diocese with pride and honour and ran, threw and jumped to the best of their ability.
