The national fundraising event is marked annually, with people from all walks encouraged to don denim in a bid to raise money and awareness for the Children’s Medical Research Institute.

In total, the school community raised $805 for a cause close to their heart. One of its students, Mollyjane Boyson, has a rare genetic disorder and relies on advances in medical research to ensure she continues to live a long and healthy life. Adding to the excitement of the day was Mollyjane’s official role as a national ambassador for the campaign.

Asked how she felt to collect donations from her peers, Mollyjane was beaming with pride.

“I felt really confident in myself helping to raise money to save children’s lives,” Mollyjane said.

Reflecting on the importance of Jeans for Genes Day, Mollyjane shone in her role as ambassador.

“It’s so important to raise money and awareness on Jeans for Genes Day because lots of children have genetic diseases that really need to be cured. By making donations we’re helping the doctors to find a cure,” she said.

Right by her side was Mollyjane’s self-described ‘best friend forever’, Audrey Barwick.

“Donating made me feel happy because we’re raising money that will help Mollyjane and other kids like her,” Audrey said, while their classmates listened on.

“I feel very proud of Mollyjane; she’s a very strong girl, she never gives up and, she is the bestest friend I could ever wish for.”
