Spirit is in the jeans

Mollyjane Boyson, 10, is a courageous young lady whose warm smile is only outshone by her incredible spirit.

And now, as an official Jeans for Genes Day ambassador, people from across Australia will get a glimpse into the life of “MJ”, who the St Therese’s Primary School community in New Lambton have come to know and love.

MJ was born premature and with a rare genetic disease for which there is currently no cure. Despite the odds given to her parents at birth, MJ embarked on her schooling journey at St Therese’s Primary in 2016 as a Kindergarten student. In the four-and-a-half years since, Mollyjane has undoubtedly made her presence known.

Acting School Principal, Kaylene Maretich, says Mollyjane’s courage and smiling face brighten St Therese’s and “remind us each day of the value of what is most important; love, kindness, friendship and life”.

Reflecting on Mollyjane’s role as a national ambassador for Jeans for Genes Day, Ms Maretich was full of praise.

“We’re incredibly proud of Mollyjane in all that she does, but especially in her role as an ambassador for Jeans for Genes Day,” Ms Maretich said. “In selflessly sharing her story, Mollyjane’s generous spirit shines through and serves to inspire others and raise awareness.”

On Friday 7 August, Jeans for Genes Day, the St Therese’s School Primary School community, which includes more than 600 students and 45 staff, will don some denim.

“Our commitment to Jeans for Genes Day honours our school’s Mercy value of service,” Ms Maretich said. “We aim to bring our school community together to raise awareness and much-needed funds for the continued research into genetic disorders and congenital disabilities. Mollyjane’s presence among us will make the day even more special.”
