On Monday 16 December, Year 8 students from St Bede’s Catholic College, Chisholm, made the most of an opportunity to exhibit a range of artworks they had produced in Visual Arts for their annual end of year student exhibition.
Held in the Student Services Office, the exhibition was on the same night as the parent-teacher interviews, allowing both parents and students to view the display on their way in and out of the interviews.
Curated and organised by Year 8’s Sharlotte Mate, the exhibition featured artworks students had developed in Terms 3 and 4.
"Year 8 created papier-mache sculptures of native Australian animals,” said Sharlotte. “To create these, we had to layer the papier-mache four times to hold all found objects together. We then added features on the animals such as fur, paint, leather, feathers and eyes.
"Year 8 then completed a comic strip using the software Photoshop. In this assessment we had the choice of creating 1-6 comic strip panels. In the artworks we had to include one famous artwork, one photograph that we had taken ourselves, one artwork we made ourselves, and some text."
Also exhibited was a collaborative artwork of Edvard Munch’s The Scream, to which all Year 8 contributed.
A special skateboard project was also displayed by nine students who were involved during the term.
