It was the second year of the Colour Explosion run. Acting Assistant Principal and Event Coordinator, Courtney Porter organised the day and students and staff from the entire K-2 school gathered for an experience they will not forget.
Friends and family sponsored Holy Spirit students taking part in the event, which included pools and slip and slides. This year was the first that water was included as a part of the obstacle course. Teachers threw colour, and support staff manned the course helping students along the way.
Parents were not only spectators but were involved in shooting water from pistols from the side-lines, with some even taking part in the course alongside their children.
“The 147 students who participated started fundraising for the event on September 9 and by Wednesday 20 September, they had raised $5000,” Miss Porter said. “All money raised will go towards building additional early learning environments at the school.
“The Holy Spirit Infants community is bursting with bright, distinctive children full of potential and the Colour Explosion was a fun way to instil this spirit through the entire community encouraging students to use their ‘colour instinct’ and build community.”
A major highlight for participants was the fire truck on hand to blast water at the students as they ran through the course.
The warm afternoon air was filled with coloured chalk bombs, chuckles and fun tunes as the students ran through the clouds of rainbow in their class groups. A DJ provided the soundtrack and the students danced their hearts out as they progressed through to finish the course.
On completion, the participants enjoyed a picnic-style lunch shared among teachers, friends and parents.
