St Joseph’s student takes on Broadway

Katelyn Davidson, a Year 4 student from St Joseph’s Primary School, Wingham is on her way to becoming Broadway’s next big thing.

With singing lessons once a week, dance lessons, solo eisteddfods and musical theatre drama lessons, Katelyn Davidson is one busy, but talented, girl.

With Katelyn about to take on her first Broadway performance as Young Eponine in Les Miserable, she is no stranger to the stage.

Katelyn has previously competed in a number of eisteddfods including the Coffs Harbour Eisteddfod where she won the Vocal Sub-Junior Championship and the Sydney Eisteddfod where she also won first place for her vocal performance.

Katelyn also starred in Shrek Junior the Musical where she played young Fiona, has performed in the Joeys Annual Festival of the Performing Arts for the past five years winning various trophies, has performed at the Wingham Carols as a soloist and even had the opportunity to sing with legendary singer and recording artist Kamahl during his performance at the glasshouse concert in Port Macquarie in January.

Interestingly enough, Kamahl was a finalist in the Sydney Eisteddfod Sun Aria way back in 1966!

Auditions for Les Miserable, which will be presented by the Taree Arts Council, were held back in February with six young people cast for the three children’s roles, allowing them to perform on alternate nights during the show’s three-week run.

The show will be held at the Manning Entertainment Centre from Friday 2 November until Sunday 18 November.
