With the theme for the evening being Strengths – The Treasures Within Each of Us, the night was filled with a variety of performances involving all students from Kindergarten to Year 6.

Throughout the year, students at St Mary’s have been working on the strength of fictional characters from a variety of books as part of the school’s positive education journey.

On the night, Year 3 and 4 students performed the classic tale, The Little Engine That Could.

The performance showed how, when a long train needs to be pulled over a high mountain and all the larger engines refuse to help for various reasons, a smaller engine can take on the job.

By repeating the motto ‘I think I can’ to boost his confidence, the smaller engine succeeds in pulling the train over the mountain.

Year 6N demonstrated the importance of kindness with their re-enactment of the book, Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge.

The story follows Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge who lives next door to a nursing home. When he finds out that his special friend, Nancy Alison Delacourt Cooper, is losing her memory, he shows kindness and sets out to find what a memory is.

Other performances on the night included, Edward the Emu and his curiosity by Kindergarten, The Real Story of the Big Bad Wolf by Year 3 and We’re Going on a Bear Hunt by Year 6G.
