An initiative created by ASPIRE after consultation with the Diocese’s drama teachers, the program aims to develop a positive drama-based experience for students.
The day consisted of six different workshops lead by industry professionals with students getting the chance to take part in two different classes throughout the day.
These workshops included Stage Combat with Fight Choreographer Scott Witt, Viewpoints with actress Julia Billington, Group Devising with Tantrum Youth Arts, Characterisation with Artistic Director of Upstage Youth Theatre Ann Croger, Physical Theatre with Actor and Dancer Angie Diaz and Monologue Writing with playwright Vanessa Bates.
Students were faced with the challenge of trying new things and encouraged to give everything a go, with all responding positively to the tasks presented to them.
Each workshop created an inclusive environment and the energy and enthusiasm for what was discovered throughout the day was evident as the students departed.
The day gave both teachers and students new skills to take back to their classrooms and was incredibly well received with staff commenting on how engaged their students were and how wonderful it was to see students from different schools collaborating with one another.
ASPIRE is looking forward to building on the success of the day and continuing to offer these kinds of immersive creative arts learning experiences for students across the Diocese.
