A St Francis Xavier’s College, Hamilton student, the 16-year-old Nicola is a Redhead club member. She is gearing up for the championships which take place near Perth next month.
Between now and then, Nicola will be competing in a number of statewide competitions.
She plans to contest nearly 10 events in the 2018 NSW Surf Life Saving Championship, Nicola will be competing in single ski and swim disciplines as well as four team relays.
As if all of that wasn’t enough, speaking to The Herald, Nicola said she “might give the open board a crack to see how I go”.
In addition to medaling in the Ironwoman in November, Nicola made it to the finals of the Ocean6 series at Queenscliff in October and North Wollongong in December. She placed 15th and 10th respectively.
“It was a very good experience,” she told The Herald.
“You don’t get to do that very often and I didn’t expect to make two finals.”
Nicola’s Redhead club teammates, Daniel Collins and Isak and Lily Contello will be joining her at the NSW titles. More than 2,000 competitors from 83 clubs throughout New South Wales are registered in the four-divisions of the carnival. Among the participants will be Olympian Riley Fitzsimmons.
