The girl’s division, coached by Steve Atkins, enjoyed a strong win in the division one competition, which was followed with victory in division four boys.

The girls were unbeaten in six matches, the first three of those matches determined division placing and secured themselves a place in division one. Students dominated throughout the championships playing Queanbeyan in the final, proving too good for the opposition, winning 38-10.

“We are all very proud of the girls winning this competition for the second year in a row. The team is very strong and I have no doubt that they would compete extremely well against any primary school basketball team in Australia,” said coach, Steve Atkins.

The boys earned a place in fourth division and cruised through to the final, dominating their opponents, leading by 32 points until play was called off.

“I’m so very proud of the boys and girls team from St Joseph’s for their efforts and commitment and sportsmanship,” said coach, Elisha Radburn.

“St Joseph’s Taree is really keen to run a northern division of this carnival to give schools in the polding area the chance to experience basketball at this level without having to travel so far,” said Team Manager, Miranda Bourke.

“What a great experience for our students and teachers where all Catholic schools come together for a weekend of basketball, fun, good sportsmanship, competition and friendship,” Elisha said.
