Hosted by the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle, the event attracted families and schools from as far as Lismore, Armidale, Bathurst, Wilcannia-Forbes and Broken Bay.
On a near perfect carnival day for athletics, the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle performed very well with 30 students qualifying for the Polding squad to compete at the NSWPSSA Athletics Championships at Homebush on 18 & 19 October.
Some outstanding track results:
Anita Olie from St Joseph’s East Maitland running in the 8yrs 100m with a speedy time of 14.95 to break the Polding record in the girls 11yrs long jump.
Darcy Taaffe from St Joseph’s Merriwa finished 2nd in the junior girls 800m.
Oliver Schumacher from St Mary’s Scone finished 3rd in the senior 800m.
Poppy Doran from St Joseph’s Charlestown and Eve Keeling from St Columba’s Adamstown nearly took out a quinella in the 11yrs 100m final with Poppy winning and Eve coming 3rd. Eve also won the 11yrs 200m event.
Logan Aoake finished 3rd in the final of the 12yrs 100m.
Jasmine Roberts from St Joseph’s Kilaben Bay placed 1st in the 13yrs 100m.
Amali Fitzhenry from St Columba’s Adamstown came 2nd in the 13yrs 100m.
Kiya Shorter from St James’ Muswellbrook and Sam Paterson from St Columban’s Mayfield finished 2nd & 3rd respectively in the boys 13yrs 100m.
William Hogan from St Joseph’s Taree finished a credible 3rd in the senior boys 200m.
The diocese also performed strongly in field events with the following results:
William Scanes from St Aloysius winning gold in the 11ys high jump.
Alix O’Bryan from St Catherine’s Singleton came 2nd in the senior high jump.
Darcy Radburn from St Joseph’s Taree claimed bronze in the junior high jump.
Karlia Bramble from St Therese’s New Lambton came 2nd in long jump.
Bella Linton from St Paul’s Rutherford came 3rd in long jump.
Anthony Shultz from St Joseph’s Gloucester came 3rd in senior shotput.
Hannah Chicken & Bagrielle Monoghan from St Joseph’s Taree came 2nd and 3rd in the 11yrs shotput.
Luke Marko from St James’ Muswellbrook came 2nd in 11yrs shotput.
Grace Doyle from St Joseph’s Merewether received bronze in the senior discus.
Our multi-class athletes shone with Jessie Forbes from Our Lady of Victories Shortland winning her division in the 100m, 200m, long jump and shot put; Jasmine Ferguson from St Aloysius Chisholm came 2nd in the 100m; Matthew Reeves Roach from Gloucester won the junior 100m & 200m and Alexander Brown from St James’ Kotara South won the 100m & 200m in his division.
St Joseph’s Primary School, Bulahdelah, was the only diocesan school to qualify for a relay event at NSWPSSA, coming second in the PP5 division.
