Gallery: One person's junk is another's treasure... ASPIRE presents The Hoarders Next Door
A talented collection of 130 actors, dancers, vocalists and musicians from primary and secondary schools in the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle performed in Artistic Director Anna Kerrigan’s latest work, a compelling theatrical production that explores people and their possessions, neighbourhoods and community.
From Wednesday 2ndto Saturday 5thAugust, performers representing 29 Catholic schools will take to the stage over five performances at the Civic Theatre.
In its sixth year, the audition-based ASPIRE featured the biggest cast of Years 5 to 12 students to date and an original story and script accented by a number of popular songs from Australian artists such as “Cheap Thrills” by Sia and The Presets electro pop number “My People”, performed by the ASPIRE band and vocal ensemble.
The Hoarders Next Doorfeatured the importance of community at its core through a loveable elderly couple who can't bear to part with their possessions and the portrayal of a close knit Australian neighbourhood of yesterday; where neighbours have grown up together and everyone knows the local postman.
In 2016, ASPIRE was awarded “Best Special Theatrical Event” at the City of Newcastle Drama Awards (CONDA) for last year’s hit production,There’s Something Strange About Marvin McRae.
