A group of brave water warriors have taken a small step in the right direction to promote healthy living and make a difference in their school community.

With the initiative to fight Australia’s obesity issues, the students are doing their part with one simple change, water.

Life Education Hunter Region’s Executive Officer, Sarah Gray explains, “The Water 4 Life Challenge focuses on primary aged students where we ask them to take up the challenge of drinking only water for 2 weeks, ditching those sugar-laden fizzy drinks, and by doing so they will raise funds for their schools Life Education classes, free of charge”.

“Water is great for our body and mental health, so it is important that we take on this challenge to see if we can live without sugar drinks and notice the difference it makes to our bodies,” said one student.

Drinking plenty of water and staying hydrated through the day is one of the most important things we can do for our health, and we applaud Hunter Life Education for helping instil this healthy habit in children from a young age”, said Hunter Water Managing Director, Jim Bentley.

With the support of Life Education, young people are able to set a positive example for their peers and spread the word about the benefits of drinking water throughout their school community.

“Drinking water can affect your moods, relieve fatigue, helps with digestion and protects your teeth. Children need water to have a healthy body and a healthy mind so by entering this challenge we are able to promote healthy living in our community.

“The children are very excited to be a part of the challenge, especially to visit Life Education. Life Education covers many of the aspects of living a healthy life. Our community can benefit greatly from the visit and the basic health tips associated with this challenge,” said School Principal, Jennifer Crichton.

For the students of St Columban’s this campaign is only the beginning, however it is the actions of these students that will make a difference in the future.
