125 students from 26 Catholic schools across the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle came together at the Civic Theatre from 4 to 6 August to participate in the ASPIRE production, There's something strange about Marvin McRae.

For the first time in ASPIRE’s five years, the entire story and script were completely original, written by Artistic Director, Anna Kerrigan. This year’s production took audiences on an adventure with the spirited Marvin McRae and his imaginary friend. 

"It was humorous, reflective, witty, full of pathos, incredibly acted, with superb solo and ensemble singing and dancing and with local students providing the musical score from a variety of well-known musical pieces," remarked Director of Schools, Ray Collins.

“To all involved, I can only say that the 2016 ASPIRE production demonstrated once again that the ASPIRE Team led by Assistant Director of Schools, Craig Wattam, has achieved every aim of the program and surpassed each one of them.”

ASPIRE is an audition-based drama, dance, music and creative and performing arts program which was launched by the Catholic Schools Office in 2011 to  provide opportunities for students from Years 5-11 in Catholic schools in the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle. Led by Artistic Director, Anna Kerrigan, and five Ensemble Directors, ASPIRE invites talented students from across the diocese to audition to develop and enhance their skills through vocal, instrumental, drama and dance performances.
