Everyone knows the saying, ‘Time flies when you’re having fun’. This saying could be repurposed when referencing Mums’ Cottage in Holmesville to “Time flies when you’re helping someone’. Last week, Sr Helen Anne Johnson rsj and the thirty regular volunteers and many patrons of Mums’ Cottage celebrated its 5th birthday.
Caritas, the Catholic agency for international aid and development, today launched Project Compassion 2017 locally at Sacred Heart Cathedral. Gathered together for this special occasion were representatives from the 39 parishes and 56 schools of the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle.
This year I am in the privileged position of having a child in Year 6 and a child starting kindergarten (with another one in between). The reason I feel lucky about this is not just because I will finally get the much coveted school photo featuring all of my kids at once, but because I’ve been able to witness the buddy system at St Benedict’s Primary School, Edgeworth, from two perspectives.
