TUESDAYS: This Week is Enough

I’m not the kind of person to run out of things to say. Although, I might struggle for the right words for the right moment. Before Teresa left, I asked, “What if there’s nothing to write about?” Her reply was to simply look back over the week that has been. There will be enough to share.

So, there I was with a mild case of writer’s block when I decided to simply look at the week that had been. It is funny how in life we often look for the big moments when our day-to-day journey is often sufficiently full of rich encounters.

Tuesdays: Our Pilgrim Church Part 2

With Teresa currently abroad, I have accepted the invitation to write ‘Tuesdays’ over the coming weeks. I am looking forward to the opportunity to journey with you all for this short time. Interestingly, Teresa left off with some thoughts around ‘pilgrimage’ which seems like an appropriate place to pick up the conversation.

BRENDON MANNYX: Prison Sunday

This week’s message comes to you from Brendon Mannyx, Manager Mission and Outreach.

Last Sunday, 6^th November, was Prison Sunday. During the Year of Mercy in 2016, Pope Francis announced a Jubilee for Prisoners, and since that time the Bishops Commission for Social Justice, Mission and Service has continued to encourage dioceses and parishes to mark the first Sunday in November in recognition of those in prison and those who provide pastoral support to them.

Our Diocese currently supports two full-time prison chaplains and, through them, hundreds of incarcerated people and their families every year.

From 2013 – 2016, I was privileged to serve as a sessional chaplain, attending prison one day a week. In 2015, I shared the following reflection with my parish community.

Looking back on those early days of parenting, I can now appreciate the gift of other dads (and mums!) around me. I often found myself asking the tricky questions around certain aspects of fatherhood and being genuinely interested in the answers.
