CatholicCare Social Services Hunter-Manning recognises the importance of positive male role models in the lives of children and young people. Many who live in foster care (out of home care) have had limited positive relationships with men prior to coming into the care system. Developing healthy relationships with male foster carers can assist children and young people develop resilience and increase their capacity for healing, particularly if they have suffered trauma in their lives.

Q  My father-in-law recently died from cancer. This was difficult for all of us but particularly difficult for my seven-year-old son. Although my father-in-law eventually died peacefully in his sleep, my son overheard us talking about this. Since then, my son has become afraid of sleeping alone and says that he is scared he could die in his sleep too. How can I make this better for him?
