I recently lunched with a group of ladies I had never met, yet it was like breaking bread with long lost friends. They are warm-hearted, passionate, open-minded and driven. I asked many questions, perhaps too many; nevertheless, with each response they grew in enthusiasm and conviction. They are passionate about what they are doing − and helping others has helped them too.
Q My eight-year-old son has recently been diagnosed with ADHD and has been prescribed medication to help manage the condition. CatholicCare Social Services Hunter-Manning funded a nationally recognised St John’s two-day First Aid course for six young people being supported by CatholicCare’s Out Of Home Care (OOHC) service at the Mayfield head office last week. Participants included young people who are currently in foster care or have recently left foster care and moved into CatholicCare’s Supported Independent Living and After Care programs.
Q I have worked as a senior nurse for the past 15 years and have mostly enjoyed it. However, over the past 12 months, I have become increasingly frustrated as there are petty workplace issues that are unresolved. Also, I feel I care too much, and sometimes I carry my sadness and frustration home with me. One of my colleagues suggested I might be “burning out”. I don’t think I am depressed but I find it increasingly difficult to go to work each day. Could ‘burnout’ explain what is going on with me?
