Interagency Foster Care Picnic 2015

The 2015 CatholicCare Interagency Foster Care Picnic attracted 400 carers and children on Wednesday 23 September, turning Maitland Park into a buzzing hive of activity, colour and fun. Face painting, jumping castles and a sausage sizzle added to the sense of celebration, despite the cold windy weather.

There were activities to keep young and old occupied - from performances from Aboriginal dancers, to craft activities, cupcake icing, drumming lessons, balloon blowing, soccer games and a wildlife show.

Adults and children alike enjoyed the day and the company of other carers and children. Sitting in camp chairs or on picnic blankets eating hot sausage sandwiches there was a real sense of togetherness and support to accompany the festive mood.

The day would not have been possible without the support of the many agencies involved: Allambi, Wesley Dalmar, Settlement Services International, Barnardos International, Life Without Barriers, Samaritans, Challenge Community Services, NSW Family & Community Services and many more.

A heartfelt thank you must go out to all those staff and volunteers who prepared and cooked food, packed, carried, crafted, registered, blew up balloons, photographed, set up, and packed down. To those who mingled, laughed, danced and otherwise made it such a wonderful day for the children and their carers, we also give our heartfelt gratitude. A special mention must be given to David Wilson for his assistance with the marquees and the packing and unpacking and to Di Walters for her usual quiet (but magical!) work.
