DR MICHAEL SLATTERY: St Bede's Welcomes First Students

On Friday I had the honour to address the St Bede’s Catholic College community of parents and students at their first welcome liturgy.

The first reading from the Book of Psalms reminded us that the Word of God was like a lamp and that Jesus was there to guide us.
The Gospel of Matthew read by Fr Joyce reflected  on asking and receiving rom God , and that everyone who hears the Word of God will be rewarded. I spoke to the community of the importance and relevance of these words, together with the College Motto that we “ Shine With Christ’s Glory”.
On behalf of the Bishop and the staff of the CSO I thanked the parents, grandparents and guardians for choosing Catholic education. I also thanked the CSO staff and St Bede’s staff, including the Foundation Principal Mr John Murphy for the tremendous amount of work and preparation in the design and planning for the new school.
I welcomed all the students to their new family. The family of 1800 teachers and 19,602 students within the Diocesan system of schools. I then reminded them of their obligation to live out their motto within the St Bede’s community and shine like Christ in every encounter. I pledged a commitment to continue to support, guide and pray for the St Bede’s community throughout 2018 and beyond.
