On Sunday 27th November 2016, church leaders, parishes and Indigenous communities gathered together to commemorate the 30th Anniversary of Saint John Paul II’s (JPII) visit to Alice Springs in the heart of Australia on 29th November 1986.
Hope is one of humanity’s most precious aspirations. It can transform lives and bring joy. Around the world the need for hope is on display in many poor and vulnerable communities, and there is no better time to reflect on this than at Christmas.
Bishop Bill captured the spirit of the occasion when St John’s Chapel, formerly St John’s Cathedral, was dedicated before a large assembly on Sunday, 6 November. He said, “There are so many good things about this day, not least that we have a church full of singers!”
